You laid me on the ground
Hands locked at my back
Your knee pressed down on my neck
Snuffing the life out of me
You broke down my door
Guns blazing, without a call
Your bullets dug holes in my skin
Draining the life out of me
You chased me down the road
Trigger happy fingers on the clock
Your hatred pumped bullets in my chest
Stealing the life out of me
You say the colour of my skin
Sends shivers down your spine
You say our blackness
Is a threat to your existence
But tell me man in blue
could you survive a day in our world?
To sleep with one eye open
or not sleep at all, scared of
becoming another nameless face
To wake up to this rotten reality
where another person of colour
is smothered because of their race
To walk our streets in fear
that your armed men in blue
could feel threatened by our fast pace
Scared to run, jog or even sit on our cars
terrified to shop, work or even sleep on our beds
because being human could get you killed
To know that your home isn't safe
neither is your workplace, business or school
because the colour of your skin makes you a threat
So don't you dare sit in your white privilege
and tell us that we are overreacting
or that it's all in our heads
Tell that to the black men and women
who now lay six feet deep in the ground
for existing while black
Tell that to the black families who are
tired of seeing the faces of their loved ones
accompanied by hashtags on social media
Every day is a constant reminder
of the hatred consuming you from within
of the blood, you've shed on our streets
Of the injustices we face from you men in blue
whose aim is to slaughter us, black people
and not serve and protect as you ought
We cry out in ricochets of loud voices
in pain, strength and solidarity
weary of being targeted and dehumanized
When will this tyranny end??
How long shall we suffer??
How many hashtags will we create??
We are putting our foot down in one accord, with one soul and spirit, we say to you
No Justice, No Peace, We Can't Breathe
Black Lives Matter!!!!!
